From Busy Bee To Queen Bee

Roxie’s husband tells her that she is beautiful every day but quite often she never believes him and once confidence is broken down the journey it can be difficult to gain self confidence and assurance.

Back To The Empowerment Blog

Roxie is always on the go. She has two jobs, loves going to concerts and the theatre (she saw Rocky Horror Show four times!) She enjoys drawing and craft, going on mini adventures with her children (whenever she isn’t doing housework) and seeing her friends for breakfast.

Once a month she goes on a gorgeous date night with her husband, but on other occasions they snuggle up on the sofa with a good box set.

She describes herself as “a woman who never stops” and when she does, she feels guilty. And, when finally she gets some well deserved ‘me time’ the everyday life buzz still hums in the background.

Whilst every day life continues, Roxie pushes her confidence aside. This is a common problem for women today, we sometimes get caught up in life’s daily tasks, the constant social occasions and the continuous feeling to make sure everyone around you is ok before yourself.

This is why when someone puts you first it is sometimes an unnatural feeling. It is truly not out of the ordinary to need reassurance when you don’t continually work on something like confidence.

Roxie’s husband tells her that she is beautiful every day but quite often she never believes him. “I’ve always struggled with my body weight,” she confessed. Unfortunately, once confidence is broken down the journey can be difficult to gain self confidence and assurance.

Even with the help of your partner, it needs to come from within. This is where Andrew Wood Photography arrives into Roxie’s story. “I wanted to feel a boost in my self confidence,” she admitted.

Roxie wanted to prove to herself that she was beautiful. She confessed she was “excited but nervous” before coming for her boudoir photoshoot.

At Andrew Wood Photography, we strive to make you comfortable and support you as much as we can! We have phone calls with you to check if there is anything we can do to make the experience more special for you. Our ultimate goal is to make you feel like you are with a friend not a company, we want to get to know you as we have with Roxie.

So, fast forward to the big day. Roxie said “I felt so special and pampered” when Freya finished her makeup and hair. She even allowed Freya free reign over her look and it came out gorgeous! This is all part of the process, the makeover allows you to sit back and relax and let us indulge you, something that was truly what Roxie needed.

Once Roxie’s hair and makeup was finished, it was time for her to shine. “I felt empowered and sexy, for the first time in a long time,” she said when asked how she felt when striking those poses in her amazing lingerie.

She added that “I don’t tend to buy myself beautiful underwear (especially after having kids) so it was nice”. And even though she was a little anxious at first Jess, her photographer, made her feel at ease right away, and Roxie felt confident that Jess would make her look good.

Roxie trusted the process and put her faith into her boudoir experience. When asked how she felt after the photoshoot, she happily answered “felt amazing and proud of myself”. It takes courage and strength to be so vulnerable with someone you don’t even know.

That’s why women get such great feelings after doing something like this. We get to do something we didn’t know we were capable of and it results in a liberating experience.

Now for the best part, viewing your photos. “I was excited, my husband was really looking forward to it,” Roxie said. Bringing someone along to your viewing can really make it a special event.

You’ll be in a cinema style viewing, relaxing with some popcorn and a drink. This is where Roxie saw for the first time in a long time her glow unveiled.

“I cried, happy tears. It was quite emotional to see myself” she confessed. For Roxie, seeing her images for the first time on the big screen was a bit unbelievable “I was like that can’t be me?!” she added.

This is what Roxie needed, her husband appreciated her but why didn’t she? When we get caught up in the everyday life routine, we forget how important it is to take time to appreciate ourselves.

Roxie’s life has changed since her boudoir experience. She explained “my self confidence has boosted so much, I feel definitely more comfortable in my own skin.”

For us, we couldn’t have wished for a better outcome. From busy bee to now her own queen bee Roxie says “I am who I am. I now own that!”
